Fly With Alisha Reed

Since 2014, after starting her blog Nola Bougie, Dr. Alisha Reed has inspired women to live their best lives by becoming the best version of themselves. But on December 23, 2019, Alisha’s entire life changed, and she began to question her purpose and message when her husband passed away from a massive heart attack at the age of 43. Heartbroken and now a widow as well as a single mother to her son, Alisha was left with the question “how do I go on from here?” After the outpouring of love and compassion from her following and community as well as seeing how being transparent with her own journey has inspired others, the answer to her question seemed simple. In order to live your best life, honor those you’ve lost and defeat self-doubt you need to First Love Yourself. Alisha is still self-proclaimed bougie but Fly with Alisha Reed provides coaching services as well as showcases and encourages other women to realize there is so much more.

Along with sharing Alisha’s journey of grief, bringing the concept of First Loving Yourself (FLY), for women specifically, to the forefront was most important. Alisha wanted to share with her audience the different forms of how self-love and care can be displayed as well as hear from experts and other personal experiences on how these practices can affect overall wellness. In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, Branda J Communications (BJC) worked to achieve this goal through social media.

BJC began outreach to influencers, authors and experts on the subjects pertaining to self-care including skincare, beauty and mental health. Utilizing Alisha’s biggest platform, Instagram, and the ramp up of the use of Instagram Lives in the start of the pandemic the FLY Chat Instagram Live series came to life. The series included a combination of Q&A Instagram Live streams on topics including “How to Say No” and “Having the talk your non-black friend” with Alisha’s audience as well as guest interviews. Guests included Co-owner and Esthetician Elise Lucas, Psychologist and Hairstylist Dr. Afiya Mbilishaka, Father and Author Dr. Edmund Moore and Counselor Halima Dargan, LPC. BJC researched conversation topics, coordinated and booked guests, drafted talking points and crafted marketing materials for the FLY Chats.

As a direct result of BJC’s involvement, the FLY Chat series received over 6000 views and reaching over 10,000 including a 3% increase in following and engagement for @flywithalishareed.
